Great location, convenient to the area, friendly staff, good & wholesome food. Would like for them to serve sweet tea.

Don't judge the food by the interior. The place looks like a cafeteria. In fact they call your name and give you the tray of food. The food was in expectantly delicious! I had the pork taco special of the day and it was amazing! The food is healthy and nothing is fried. The gentleman working was also very nice. I saw the other reviews weren't favorable but I would give this a shot. It's also walking distance to the hospitals.

I work in the MDR building and this place is the closest food location. It isn't that bad. I ordered a sandwich and salad and it was tasty. I was just bummed that my vegetarian club bread wasn't toasted. I think it would have tasted better toasted.
The daily specials is where you get your money's worth! -

The new management has made the recipes better and food consistent. The daily lunch special is too pricey now pushing $9. I'll still get it occasionally b/c portions seem to be leveling off at a good size these days instead of in the past when they were small. They should include a small cookie or something too. If you don't mind spending the dough then good dishes are the chicken enchilada casserole, pork tacos and the meat loaf. If you're eating in and not super hungry you could get the side(salad, soup or pasta) to go. The to go portion of soup is smaller than the in-house bowl FYI. Really, if you were dining with a friend who's not starving you both could split this. Speaking of the soup the vegetable is better now. Under old management it was like soup with mainly tomatoes and a few other vegetables for decoration. Now it's full of other vegetables. Often there are several sides to choose from - two soups and multiple variations of salad and pasta or a fruit cup. It's nice they have dishes for vegetarians too. If I don't get the daily special I enjoy the soup/sandwich combo. The half club I get is very good and a whopper. The shallot mustard mayonnaise and spicy cappicola ham really make it good. Check your sandwich before you leave if getting carryout though. The last time they forget the ham on mine. The combo price has gone up too FYI. It is a good bit of food though. There are also some decent desserts to choose from including Kizito cookies. -

Upon walking into City Cafe with some co-workers the first thing that I noticed was a sticker on the door that said, "Keep Louisville Weird." I hoped that meant that I would encounter the kind of high quality food and service that movement usually prides themselves on. I ordered the sandwich of the month which was a chicken sandwich. It normally comes with bacon. Since they seemed fairly vegetarian friendly I asked if they had turkey bacon or a bacon substitute and they did not so I got it without the bacon as I'm not a pork eater (I'm not deducting stars for that, just mentioning it as a FYI). When I got the sandwich it was just okay. It was advertised as having an aioli but what it came with was more like a spicy salad dressing than an aioli. The sandwich didn't have any lettuce, tomato, etc. It was just chicken, aioli, cheese, and bread (normally bacon as well). It really seemed like it lacked substance.
The real problem came when I decided to go back up to the counter and order a chai latte before we departed to go back to the office. I clearly said "chai latte" to the woman at the register. She charged me for a chai. Then I noticed that the woman who was making the drinks was pulling coffee ingredients. So, when she handed me my drink I said, "this is a Chai right?" and she said "yes". I smelled it and it smelled like coffee. I took a taste and it was coffee. I told her that it was not Chai and was in fact coffee. She just said "Oh" and then went about remaking me a Chai. However, when she finally did hand me a Chai it was only half full of tea and was half foam. Overall this was just a really disappointing experience and not one that I would be particularly eager to repeat. I definatly wouldn't order another Chai from them again.
